On-Page SEO

On-Page SEOUse On-Page SEO: Using your keywords when editing your content.

What is a Keyword and how do you use it in On-Page SEO? A keyword is generally a word or phrase that relates to the topic of your website, page or post. When some one searches for more information on a topic or product in a search engine they use keywords as a way to identify and verbalize what they’re looking for. Using On-Page SEO, website owners create content around relevant topics to their business or interests which helps them rank well and be found.

When editing a page or post for On-Page SEO follow these rules:

  1. Your keyword must appear in the title.
  2. It must appear in the URL.
  3. Use your Keyword in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page.
  4. To optimize your keyword, make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing).
  5. Spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article using Keywords where it makes sense.
  6. Use your Keyword in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page.
  7. Also have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword.
  8. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword.

So when you are in edit mode or creating a new page, remember to keep your On-Page SEO in mind!

Security Warning for WP plugin

Update WP Super Cache and W3C Immediately – Remote Code Execution Vulnerability Disclosed

Two of the most popular performance plugins for WordPress have what we would classify a very serious vulnerability – remote code execution (RCE). If you have WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache on your server (even disabled) we recommend that you update immediately.

What is Search Engine Optimization and Why do I need it for my website?

The internet is a big place. Very big. According to the Cisco Visual Networking index-a forecast of all internet traffic that will take place over the next few years- global internet traffic will reach 1.3 zettabytes of information by 2016. What is a zettabyte you might ask? 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes-the 0’s and 1’s in computer language-or 1 billion terabytes of information. That’s Billion, with a “B.” You know that “huge” 500 Gigabyte hard drive in your computer that you think you could never possibly fill up? imagine two billion of those. For reference, your average webpage is about 60-80 kilobytes, or 60,000-80,000 bytes. Compared to the earlier number, this is inconsequentially small.

Like I said: Big.

So how does someone sift through all of these webpages to get to what they want? That’s where the search engines get to do their thing. Google and other search engines like Bing and Yahoo, for example, use search algorithms to connect you–the person searching for something–to whatever it is your looking for. Whether it’s a new laptop, the best way to house train your new puppy, or a review of the latest box office hit, it all comes down to math. It seems natural then, that as the internet changes and grows so does the equation.

That is where Search Engine Optimization comes in. What we do at Paintscape Designs Inc. is refine the code behind your website as well as its actual readable content as much as possible to make it easy for these search engines to get to your website. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a blog or a full e-business. By constantly maximizing the exposure you get from the web, you can get the most that the internet has to offer.

Is your website dynamic or static?

Happy New Year!

Is your website dynamic or static?

2011 was a productive year around here. I continued to improve upon my skill set in order to provide easy-to-use, template driven, web software. Most new or recently updated websites I design are now in Wordpress. Designing a website in a powerful web platform, such as WordPress, has tremendous advantages (see below). My goal is to provide my clients with a powerful, yet affordable, website that they can update themselves without any knowledge of HTML or coding.  I use the power of WordPress to help my clients achieve their goals, by giving them the tools to manage all aspects of having a website.

Websites should not be be created and then left unattended! Think of it this way: If you had a brick and mortor store front, would you never change the display in the window? I think you see what I mean. Your storefront would not be very appealing. It is important to keep your website and its content current. With a web platform that is also a Content Management System (CMS), it couldn’t be easier to manage your content.

You already have your hands full?  Many of my small business clients are busy running their businesses and do not have the time or inclination to look after their websites. No problem! That is where I come in. Let me be your website partner.

Coming Soon! Early next year, I will be offering turnkey WordPress packages with Maintenance Agreements that include keeping your site updated with reports on how you are doing on Google and other search engines. Maintencae Agreements will also be available for existing WordPress users. Details will be forthcoming. This will be a cost effective and powerful solution for keeping your Web Presence current, tracking your visitors, and reaching your goals. Then you can do what you do best and manage your business.

There are many advantages to using a platform like WordPress for your website. WordPress is Open Source, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it (more than most commercial platforms). It also means you are free to use it for anything, from your personal page to a Fortune 500 website, without paying anyone a license fee.

  • Over 25 million people have chosen WordPress for their website.
  • Unlimited uses, not just a blog, but full featured e-commerce, galleries, media, memberships, social websites.
  • SEO and Google Analytics are easy to manage. (Now part of my new maintenance package)
  • Thousands of plug-ins, themes and community support. (I have included plugins that add great fuctionality to every site I build, such as shopping carts, galleries and contact forms.)
